Monkey's 8th Birthday

8 years ago today I gave birth to my Monkey. I can't believe how quick time has passed.  She has grown into such a wonderful young lady. She is so kind and caring, she is so smart. I am truly blessed to be her mom.  I sometimes feel upset that she was dealt a bad hand with her learning disabilities but it doesn't hold her back. I wish I could take that away from her and anything else that were to ever go wrong but I think that's any mother.

I am so proud of her. Everything about her makes me proud. We are raising such a great girl. 2 weeks ago we had her birthday parties (one for her school friends and one for our family and friends). She received some gift cards from Toys R Us. She and I went on a special shopping trip where she proceeded to buy herself a new Monster High doll, presents for her brother and sister and a child in need. I did have to add $10 to help her out but the fact that she would use her own money to do that is so telling of her character.

Last year I shared her birth story here and I shared pictures here from the last  7 years of her life.

I want to add to that and share pictures from the last year. She is truly turning into a young lady, my little girl is quickly slipping away.

Another year has quickly passed us by (and apparently so has the time, where I started to write this post and had the intention of finishing it on her birthday time has passed and it's the day after) my girl is growing up.  I really truly am blessed to be her mother. I love you so much and Happy 8th Birthday Monkey.

What I Wore Wednesday - Party Edition

So this weekend was a crazy busy weekend for us.  This weekend Rock threw me  a birthday party for my 35th birthday and then on Sunday we celebrated Monkey's First Holy Communion.   We spent all week prepping for these parties, I did he fun fluffy stuff like decorating and baking cakes while he did the hard work of dong all the food prep. My mom took over the cleaning since I still have a bum knee.  I spent my lunch hour on my birthday going to get an ultrasound on my knee hoping to get some answers while we wait for my MRI to be booked.

Still  being mostly  couch bound  has afforded me more time to work on my projects.  You can check them out  here where I hold myself accountable on a weekly basis and post my pictures on facebook and twitter daily.

As with previous weeks I'm linking up with The Pleated Poppy , Mama Go Round and the Transatlantic Blonde.

I'm posting this a day early again because I have another Dr's appointment tomorrow, I'm going to be getting the results of the ultrasound.

Wednesday - Dr's appointment and work
headband - made by me
dress - Target
flower pins and belt - made by me
yoga pants - Addition Elle

Thursday - no pictures but we had a pizza dinner for my birthday

Friday - again no pictures after work I took Tutu to the walk in clinic because overnight he had spiked a fever of 40 and every time that happened he would vomit.  While at the Dr's he did it again and we got put to the front of the line. The Dr told me that he was dehydrated and needed to be admitted overnight for dehydration. I took him to ER and spent 4 hours there only to find out that he is not dehydrated and has a virus. The Dr had me in tears that my son was so sick but  it turned out all right in the end.

Saturday - My party
I wish I had gotten more and better pictures. I love the way my hair turned out. Everyone was asking me if I had extensions in my hair but nope it's all mine.  It's funny in high school I always had the short hair (lots of pixie cuts) and my friends had the long hair. Now I have the long hair and there is short (not pixie cut short but about shoulder or chin length).   I teased my hair, pulled it back and then curled random sections for the hair that was down.
flower in my hair (not seen)-gift from my mom
dress - upcycled by me
cardi - Dress barn
leggings - Penningtons

Sunday - Monkey's First Holy Communion
I didn't wake up early enough to get my hair done they way I wanted to so it was just pulled up. I needed to make sure the special girl had her hair curled for her special day. I even forgot to put a flower in my hair. I wear one every day and I forgot that day.
dress - Walmart  (I got it on clearance for $5)
flower pins - made by me
belt - Forever 21
tights - Target

Monday - Work
headband - a gift from my friend for my birthday
top - it's so old I don't remember where I got it
skirt - Penningtons
It was warm out today so I deiced to wear a skirt to take advantage of it.

 Tuesday - work
top - Penningtons
cowl - made by me
pants - Addition Elle (I picked them on on the clearance rack for $3, I picked up 1 pair a size smaller thinking if they didn't fit I only wasted $3. They did fit and when I sent my mom back tot he store to get me some more they had none. Next time).

This is Monkey at her First Holy Communion.  The dress was made by my mom and me. I did the designing my mom did most of the sewing and I made the wreath and veil.  I think it turned out great.  I noticed in some of the pictures the skirt had shifted from the middle more to the side but I am going to get her dress up again in the dress to take some more pictures without the pressure of the day.  The dress is actually 2 pieces, a top and a skirt. We did this sot hat in 4 years Muffin will be able to wear it as well. We have extra material to make a new top and the skirt waist can be let out to fit her. Right now they are almost the same size so in 4 years Muffin will be much bigger. If the skirt is too short we can add another layer of ruffles. Put a lot of thought into this.

And this morning I decorated my cane. I was holding off doing it because I didn't want to be a part of my life but since he is determined to stick around he gets to be dressed up. I used washi tape to dress him up.

I hope that everyone had a great week and  creative week.

Tutu's 2nd Birthday Party

On Monday Tutu turned 2 and last Saturday we had a party to celebrate. The theme was Elmo, I had made Elmo cake pops and Elmo fruit platters to help celebrate his special day.

Tutu after he woke up from his nap just before guests arrived. He had a shower just before his nap and woke up with his hair all over the lace so I spiked it up and went with it.  I made the bow tie he is wearing.

The birthday boy and I

Elmo cake pops, I followed this method.

Elmo fruit platter (I forgot to add the orange slices for the nose)

Cookie Monster. I got the idea from Pintrest over here.

Cake time. Sadly I did not make the cake but after making the cake pops and cupcakes I ran out of steam.  The fireworks on the birthday cakes have become a tradition, I buy enough for the year every May when I buy our fireworks for Victoria Day.  Also wanted to add that Rock is looking awesome here, he has now lost over 175 lbs.

Blowing out the candle.

Enjoying his cake pop

My dad and Cookie Monster.  Sadly I didn't get a picture of the decorations  but because of the week we've had (I've sprained my knee and am using crutches) they are still up so I will try and take a picture of them and post.

Present time and sadly one of a very few pictures that the girls are in. I wasn't a very good memory keeper at this party.

Everyone had a blast we were blessed with the company of good friends and family. Tutu was spoiled beyond belief. We feasted on roasted chickens with mushroom gravy, my MIL's famous ham, baked potato and cheese casserole, green beans mozzarella, carrots, salad, pierogies (both cheese and potato and sauerkraut) veggies and dip. Being Polish Rock thought we wouldn't have enough food with 2 hams and 2 chickens for about 26 of us and ended up roasting 4 chickens. Let's just say that even with sending home doggie bags with guests we still had lots of left overs.

Hope everyone is having a creative week, thanks for stopping by and checking out the party.
