What I Wore Wednesday

The last week has been spent researching more about dysgraphia and finding out if our benefits will cover psychoeducational testing for Monkey. Also trying to find places to get her tested. A lot of time is going into researching this because our meeting with the school didn't go as planned. I will post about this later, I'm still upset and frustrated with it all.

Now that I've been holding myself accountable here on a weekly basis and posting my pictures on facebook and twitter daily I seem to get more done.

Creative Journey - A Daily Dose of Creativity Week 4

In the new year I posted a goal to be creative everyday. I started this weekly post as a means to keep me accountable with my goal of being creative everyday. This week I was very productive at creating things and taking pictures. I find I am much more productive when keeping myself accountable.

Monday working on the hat I started on Saturday night.

Monday night I sewed up this quick cowl.

Tuesday I made this interchangeable headband for a co-worker daughter.

I also created a bunch of birthday cards and thank you cards for family.

Wednesday I worked a bit on the hat but I didn't get any pictures. I spent the day getting ready to meet with Monkey's Principal to discuss a possible learning disability.

Thursday I worked on the hat some more and created a drawing for Monkey to work on her fine motor skills.

Friday the hat is finished, just need to work on the pieces to turn it into an owl hat.

Saturday I was working on an ear piece and writing a blog post.

Saturday Rock and I got creative int he kitchen and made some garlic knots to take to a friend's house for dinner.

Sunday I worked on ears and beaks for the owl, still have the eyes to work on.

Muffin's 4th Birthday Party

Poor Muffin is definitely our middle child and the one who has her birthday after Christmas. By the time her birthday roles around I'm crafted out from Christmas that I don't get my act together in time to make her invites. Last year I mailed out store bought invites, this year the poor, deprived child had a facebook invite sent out. I am such a bad mommy. That said to make up for it I did make her a fondant cake like she asked completed with homemade fondant.

The Birthday Girl, I tried to get a picture of her with the pin I made her for her birthday and headband but it didn't stay on her long. she was also wearing a skirt grandma made her but it was itchy so after maybe 10 minutes she changed into leggings. (in the background you can see the decorations I made for the girls birthdays).

After opening her presents the box that held the doll her Pawpaw sent up for her was the best toy.

It wasn't as homemade and special as I would have liked but we all had a good time. Muffin was blessed by all the family and friends that attended. We are all truly blessed.

Weaning

On the 26th I weaned Muffin. It was her 4th birthday on Thursday and we had been talking about it for months. Her 4th birthday was to be the last day that she gets milkies.

When I started nursing over 7 years ago, my goal was to nurse monkey for a year. It seemed like an acceptable amount of time. When Monkey was months old I attended a playgroup (with a great group of moms who I still rely on for help parenting). I remember seeing a mom nurse her 2 year old and I thought, good for her but I would never be able to do that. Fast forward to Monkey's first birthday. I knew she wasn't ready to wean and so we embarked on the journey of extended nursing. Things were going great, she still needed to nurse. So when I got pregnant with Muffin it seemed natural to continue nursing her and then when Muffin was born I could just stop like that and make her feel like milkies stopped because of her sister. I tandem nursed them for 10 months and the summer before her 4th birthday we started to talk about when she would be done. We chose her 4th birthday. The day of her birthday we nursed for the last time and it was a great smooth transition.

Fast forward a few years ahead and in the summer I have the same conversation Muffin. we talked about how on her 4th birthday she would be a big girl and she'd have no more milkies. The closer it got to the big day, the more often we talked about it. I figured it would be a smooth transition like it was with Monkey.

Thursday was her birthday, we had Chinese food for dinner like the Birthday girl requested. Muffin and daddy had baked a birthday cake together and it was dessert. After dinner we had our last tandem nurse together; it wasn't exactly like I would have liked, Tutu and Muffin were fighting, pushing each other off. Later on I had some quiet time with Muffin and we talked about it being her last time to nurse. With crazy bedtimes I wasn't sure if we would have one more chance or not. We didn't but at least we had this time. When Muffin went to bed I was nursing Tutu who woke up. We never had that last moment before she went to sleep. I cried when I found out she went to bed without one last time. As much as I was looking forward to only nursing one child again, it was sad that my girl is growing up and starting to become a big girl. I know she will always depend on me but this was one thing that only I could provide her. It was out special time.

To say that it's been an easy transition would be an understatement. Muffin doe not like the idea of weaning. She has been begging me for milkies. It breaks my heart because it's obvious she still needs it but I also need a break. It was getting tiring nursing the 2 of them, I tandem nursed them for almost 2 years. I"m going to give it a few more days and re-evaluate the situation. I can admit that it was the wrong time for her. Parenting isn't a one size fits all solution. This may only be temporary, in the end I need to do what's best for all of us.

Happy 4th Birthday Muffin

I can't believe how time flies, my little Muffin turns 4 today. What a blessing it is to be your mom and to watch you grow into this lovely little girl. You keep me on my toes, you are a vibrant ball of energy, you are so kind and caring. You love your brother and sister so much. You do sometimes get the short end of the stick between the school issues with your sister and your brother being so young but you take it in stride. You make me proud to be your mama.

Muffin's Birth Story

My Muffin Turns 4 today. Below is her birth story written 3 days after I gave birth to her.

Thursday night I went too bed in hopes of getting a good night's sleep so that I could wake up in the morning and give castor oil a try. I figured I could try and have Muffin more naturally then an induction at the hospital on Saturday. Woke up Friday morning sicker then a dog. Every muscle ached, I had a runny nose ans a cough that made your whole body shake. Ok so there was a new plan in place. It was time to get better. I rested a lot, napped all in hopes of beating this cold. Except for running to the store in the evening to pick up a couple last minute things I was home all day. Once I got Monkey to bed took my last long hot bath and off to bed I went myself since we had to be at the hospital at 8 am.

Had a pretty good night's sleep and woke up feeling much better, not 100% but way better then Friday. Off to the hospital we we went. Monkey woke up just as we were leaving so I got to say goodbye and give her a present from mommy and daddy letting her know we still love her and so it would act as a distraction while we were gone. She loved her aquadoodle bear.

Got to the hospital and they hooked us up to the monitors and listen to baby after an hour the Dr came in and examined me and I was 2-3 cm but still had a longish neck on my cervix. She inserted cervadil in me and had to go back on the monitor for another hour. After that they had us walk around the hospital for an hour in hopes that it might get things moving. The Dr doing the induction was the Dr on call but from what my OB told me and the nurses she took a more natural approach to childbirth like my OB did so we really lucked out having her there. After we walked around we went back to be checked and since nothing was happening we were sent home with instructions on what to do and when to come back. Basically we were to return either in labour or 10am the following day.

Came home, had some lunch and went up to bed to nap. I figured that 1) I needed to rest to try and feel better and 2) I needed to rest in case I went into labour. I tried to sleep but it wasn't really coming. I kept drifting in and out of sleep but I did rest for 2 hours. Rock had joined me for the last hour and snored away. My parents were over and watching over Monkey while we rested. Woke up in time for dinner and for contractions to start about 5:30pm. They were uncomfortable but very bearable. Not very predictable, no pattern to the yet. I ate my dinner on the birthing ball and would get up to lean against the wall and sway my hips during contractions while moaning. It took me a while to eat dinner. After dinner I went up and took a long hot shower, my mother stood guard in case I needed help and told me I was taking too long. I told her no one asked her to stand watch and she could go and sit down. After the shower I went to lie down with the Ipod and rest while labour began to establish itself. As things got stringer I would chant through the contraction "They are not stronger then me, they are me". Around 7:30 Monkey wanted me to nurse her to sleep. I obliged and nursed her down in our room. Just as she fell asleep, things got more intense for me. I continued to lay on my side and work with my body. Things were getting pretty intense so I went on the computer and started timing my contractions with a website I found. they were about 3 minutes apart and lasting about 40 seconds. I figured we should probably start getting ready to go as things were getting intense. This was around 9pm. We gathered our things and my dad drove us to the hospital as it was snowing quite badly out. On the way there I remember about using my combs as pain relief. So I pulled out my combs and placed them on the acupressure points. They did help relief some of the discomfort. I yelled at my dad for speeding in the snow. I told him this is still going to hurt weather I'm in the car or at the hospital so take you time driving because I don't need to be in a car accident while in labour.

We get to the hospital and get assigned the most awesome nurse in the world. She brings me into a L&D room. Unfortunately it was one of the smaller older rooms because they are so busy. She checks me out and I'm only a good 3cm dilated. I am so disappointed. I thought I would be at least a bit further along. They hook me up to the monitor to check baby out and she was checking if another room become free. Once we were told this is the room we were stuck with I got my dad to get the bags from the car. Called my mom and let her know what's going on and told her it would probably be at least a few hours before anything would happen. Called Rock's parents and told them the same. Rock went down to get me an egg salad sandwich from Tim Horton's as I was hungry and it was time for my snack and I figured I needed to keep my strength up since we still had a while. The Dr came in and checked me still 3, both the Dr and the nurse said I was doing very well and that I would have no problem doing this naturally. They said I was coping very well with the contractions especially since they were coming pretty close together (a side effect of the cervadil). The Dr said that I had a high tolerance for pain since I didn't flinch during the internal exams. I told her I thought they were rather uncomfortable and I thought I was being a wimp. She gave me a choice if I wanted to speed things up and ensure I had my natural birth she recommended we break my waters to help things move along. I asked her if she thought it was best and she said it would speed up labour and ensure that I had my natural birth. They were very supportive of me and having my natural birth. Even when things pick up later on the nurse keeps reminding me that I wanted to do this naturally and I really don't want the epidural but now I'm getting ahead of myself. I go to the bathroom and come back and get my waters broken. Just after that was done Rock and my dad get back in the room. I tell them that the waters were broken. This was 10:50pm. The nurse tells them were to put the bags out of the way in case things pick up and they need to get ready to deliver, I wanted to eat but they wanted to monitor the baby a bit. I get on my left side, with my combs in hand, Ipod on and alternating between moaning and chanting between contractions.

Things start to get a little intense, the contractions at this point are starting to come one on top of the other I'm starting to to be able to handle the pain, I'm starting to scream through contractions they are so intense I start to BEG for an epidural the pain is too much to bear.Rock tells me to chant and starts to massage me. In not so polite ways I told him not to touch me. I tell the nurse I want the epidural, the nurse reminds me that I'm doing this and I didn't want the epidural. I tell her if I could have a break between contractions then I could do it but there is no rest. She tells me an IV needs to be run before she can get me one. She takes her time getting the IV pole and tells me she needs to check me before she starts the IV to see how far along I am. At 11:30 I am 5-6cm. I am literally screaming through each contraction at this point. My body starts to push on it's own. The nurse asks me if I'm pushing, I told her I think I am. She told me to stop I told her I can't my body spasmed that way. She checks me again it's 11:40 I am 7-8cm. I told her to screw the epidurall at this point we're doing this. Again my body spasms and I push, she checks me again at 11:45 I;m fully dilated. They help me turn onto my back, call the Dr in and tell me to start pushing. I start to push, they tell me to stop screaming and use that energy to push. I scream, I push, it burns as the baby crowns. 11:51 Muffin literally shoots out of me. They put her on top of me We delay clamping and cutting but I feel the cord tugging. They clamp cut and my placenta comes flying out not even 10 minutes after Muffin was born. I had no tears just a lot of swelling. Poor Muffin's face was all bruised from her fast arrival into the world. I was still trying to process everything that was going on. While I was pushing my mom was calling my dad to come and pick her and Monkey up because Monkey woke up and wanted to come to the hospital. She woke up as her sister was being born. My dad had finally gotten to see a birth of his grandchild. He left to go pick up Babcia and big sis. I tried to digest what just happen as they cleaned me up. Rock makes some calls I look at my baby girl and can't believe she is finally here. They leave us alone for a bit. Big sis comes to meet her sister about 20 minutes after she was born. We get moved into a recovery room around 2am.

Just as we get into the room the fire alarm goes off and everyone is trapped in the room until the all clear is given an hour later so no sleep fr the new mommy. Nurses keep coming in to poke and prod both of us because of the diabetes.I get about 1 1/12 hours sleep. I was ready to go home right away but hospital policy is you have to stay at least 4 hours. Unfortunately be cause of the diabetes we needed to stay 24 hours at least to make sure Muffin is ok. Her blood sugars were borderline and a 2 were low so we ended up staying longer then 24 hours. There was some issues with how the hospital handled that and I HATE the fact that they try and bully you and use scare tactics to keep you there because they say they are so concerned but their actions don't echo their words. they told us at the 24 hour mark we couldn't go home because of the prior test results and they needed to do a few more test and we had to stay. So we did stay and not a single test was done. A very strongly worded letter will be going out to the hospital and I may take some other actions in regards to this because I'm sick of the medical community invoking panic for no reason.

We are all finally home and even though mom and big sis are sick ( we had to go to the Dr right after coming home from the hospital because of this) we are adjusting well as a family. Tandem nursing is interesting. I think it's harder because of the fact that Monkey is sick and wants that comfort from mommy. My milk came in last night which delighted both girls and now I can go bra shopping for some nice fancy nursing bras. So this is the long version of the birth I think it took me longer to type this then the actual active labour (but I did have my nursling on hand while accomplishing this).

Today is going to be a big day. Rock and I are meeting up with the principal regarding Monkey's learning disability. I am 99% sure she has dysgraphia. What kills me is I've been saying this to them for 1 1/2 years and no one is listening to me and the butt load of research I did tonight to prepare says that early intervention (like SK, grade 1) is key. Pray that they listen to me and get her on the waiting list to be tested.

What I Wore Wednesday

As it seems to be the norm for me anther bus action packed week and another one ahead. On Saturday we are having Muffin's 4th Birthday party and I have a lot of work to do to get ready. One being the cake. My poor girl being the middle child and having her birthday right after Christmas I'm all crafted out and I didn't make invites for her. I went so lazy as to send out facebook invites out to our family and friends. I hang my head in shame.

Wednesday just another work day. Tried taking pictures in our family room. Not such a good idea when the kids have been playing in their all day and the room hasn't been tidied up.

Tuesday another day at work. I was suppose to attend parent council tonight but Rock attended for me while I stayed home and worked on a cake for Muffin. we're having her 4th birthday party on Saturday and I started her cake Monday because she wants a pink and blue polka dot fondant cake. Monday I baked the cakes, Tuesday I assembled the cake and made the marshmallow fondant and tonight I need to start decorating it.

Tutu's first time in the snow this year. He LOVED it, big change from last year when he hated it. He didn't want to come inside despite being cold.

Creative Journey - A Daily Dose of Creativity Week 2

I started this last week to keep me accountable with my goal of being creative everyday. So far I've been successful with creating but not as successful as taking pictures everyday. My weekends cause me the problems.

Tuesday I finished the bow I started on Monday

Thursday I worked on the headband some more and did some creative reading.

New Year's Day we went to the zoo.

As Tutu says "Hip...poe" He loved the hippoes. After we got home he runs to the door and says "hip...poe" and points to the car. Wait until he figures out that we got a membership to the zoo and can go whenever we want.

The kids had a blast, I"m very glad we decided to get a membership again. I know we will be putting it to good use.

What I Wore Wednesday

So usually Rock has to remind me on Tuesday nights to writemy post for today because I get caught up with my family life that I never rememberto write it until it’s very late. Well last night he did remind me but verylate and I didn’t have the energy to write it, we had a very eventful day.

During the day weattended a funeral for a friend’s father, came come and went for a massage Rockhad booked for me before Christmas and just when I got home and settled downfor the night we had to take Monkey to Urgent Care because she had eaten a chocolatefrom unknown origins and within minutes she was complaining of being itchyeverywhere, she had some red hives (that of course went away by the time we gotto Urgent Care), and complained of tummy and ear pain. We hummed and hawedabout what to do, do we give her the epi-pen? We didn’t. Do we go to UrgentCare? We did.

Apparently it was food sensitivity and not an allergic reactionbut her family Dr this morning said it was a mild reaction. It’s scary when it happens. We’ve beencoasting by with her allergies because since she got diagnosed 5 ½ years agothis was our first time seeing a reaction to her eating something that wascontaminated. We found out about herallergy from her breaking out into hives after touching a spoon that was lickedclean from peanut butter. The trace amounts made her react.

Enough about my exciting and scary day, another week hasflown by and am here sharing my outfits for the week. I need to clean up mycloset and find my clothes because I seem to be wearing the same few items overand over again (Muffin took my clothes off the hangers and dumped them on thefloor, I have been slowly cleaning them out but there is a lot so I just wearthe same few things). I also tried to do something more fun with my hair.

And I can’t seem to take outfit pictures without my childrengetting in on the action. Is it bad that my 21 month old now knows how far awayyou have to stand from the camera and by what point you need to be there whenthe self-timer beeps go off. Seriously all kids have mastered the art of theself-timer.

Sunday we had a small breakfast brunch for my mom’sbirthday. 2 of her friends came over along with my cousin and her baby.

Creative Journey - A Daily Dose of Creativity

I was hoping to get this post written yesterday so I could post it this morning but due to life getting in the way it's only getting done this afternoon.

The weekend was kind of crazy we had some birthday parties, did some shopping and had a plumber come to fix not 1 but 2 blockages. Thank God I signed up for a protection plan a few weeks ago otherwise the visit would have cost us $550 instead of $25 a month. Tutu flushed my mom's ergonomic crochet hook down the toilet and it took 2 weeks for it to cause problems. It's been missing but we assumed he threw it down the heat register like he did with all his cars he got from Christmas. He is lucky he is cute. The poor plumber spent 2 1/2 hours trying to clear the blockage.

And now onto the last 9 days worth of creativity.

January 1 - 3rd was spent working on these.

I made these hats for my friend's sons and not to leave mommy and daddy out I made them headbands.

January5th was the start of a new project.

January 6th - I finished a headband for myself.

The snowflake on both the headbands I used this tutorial from Aesthetic Nest.

January 7-8 I started and riped up another crochet project many times. I didn't take a picture of it until this morning.

And made a bow for a headband but i think it will make a cute bow-tie for Tutu.

Except for 2 days I was able to get pictures of my creative endeavors. I will aspire for better next week.

I also wanted to share some of the projects I made for Christmas.

What I Wore Wednesday - New Year's

Happy New Year everyone. Hope 2012 is starting out great for you. I set my theme for this year, no resolutions for me. And started a new blog project. I hope that you can join me on Monday for my first linky party celebrating your creativity.

Due to the Holidays we've had casual weeks at work, it was nice break from routine to dress down but since I have more "work" clothes it's easier to dress up, even if it's only business casual.

This morning I am one tired mama, yesterday Tutu refused to nap for my parents which meant he passed out at 6:30, when he went down I didn't know if it was a nap or if he was down for the night. He did wake up at one point and came downstairs but cuddled up next to Rock and went back to sleep while I was reorganizing my craft room. He hasn't been feeling good and keeps waking himself up with his coughs so not good nights for me. And then this morning he had us up bright and early at 6am.

Saturday New Year's Eve. We had a quiet evening in at home. My friend came over with her family and the kids played in the basement while the adults sat upstairs and watched a movie.

New Year's day, we spent a wet day at the zoo. With all the stuff we've gone through the last few years this was Muffin's and Tutu's first time at the zoo. Monkey was Tutu's age when we first went and got a membership. The kids had a blast despite the pouring rain, that just made it more of an adventure. Muffin didn't want to leave she was loving it, and Tutu showed us he knows a lot more words then he says at home, he was repeating all the animal names. My favorite was hip-po. He was too darn cute.

Creative Journey

While my theme for 2012 is me, my word for the year will be CREATE.

In 2012 I want to create:

art, be crafty because these things make my heart sing

a stronger relationships with those in my life.

a more comfortable and organized home.

In hopes to help me stay on track with my goals I am creating a weekly post called Creative Journey. I will post what I have created over the past week to keep me accountable. Being creative doesn't mean being crafty, creating art making things, it will include my creative endeavors in the kitchen, creative endeavors to come up with solutions for organizing my home. Looking Forward to 2012

As every year I have high hopes for the new year to come, big reams, goals and resolutions are made and not always fulfilled. I did fulfill a lot of the things I had outlined for 2011 but the ones that fell flat all revolved around me. I didn't take the time to reflect and work on me, and because of that I didn't go forward with any of my personal goals of finding a new career or selling any of my creations.

I am grateful for all the lessons 2011 brought me, I am grateful for all my friends an family. It was a quiet but busy year. It didn't turn out the way I envisioned it but it was a good year none the less.

This year instead of doing resolutions, I am dedicating a theme for the year. I will have a whole year to work on it and there isn't a check list to check off. Anything I accomplish puts me that much closer to finding out who I am right now, at this stage of life. My theme for 2012 is me. I need to take time to reflect on how I've changed and grown over the last 7 years of being a mother, I need to reflect on how my relationship with Rock has changed and grown and how I can make things better. I need to reflect on my role as a mother now that my children are growing up and we are leaving the baby stages behind for the last time. I need to figure out why I have this fear of putting myself out there and making something of myself. Instead I marinate miserably at my job when I have talents and potential. I feel like I'm just coasting right now.

I'm feeling more reflective today because it's the one year anniversary of my MIL's funeral and it's making me realize I didn't make enough changes this past year to make the most of my life. This holiday season a few of my friends have lost their loved ones as well. This is making me reflect on my life even more. One of them was a young mother of 3 young children. I keep thinking what if it was me? I don't think I've done enough to make the most of the life I have. I need to make the most of it, I need to make changes to benefit all of us, life is so short and precious.

2011 I supported Rock through his journey, I watched the children while he goes works out and attends meetings that help him change both physically and emotionally. I supported him through the loss of essentially a person, he has lost over 150 lbs since March and still going strong.

2012 will be my year, I hope to get back on the health kick I was on before I gave up on myself because I felt like my body failed me again when I did the triathlon relay. I am so mad at myself for not being able to finish the race and having to be pulled out of the water. I will start the year out right, change my diet and get back into the gym. I will focus back on getting healthy as opposed to training for an event. I think that doing that took the fun out of it for me. It also brought up memories of my body failing me in the past.

So see the theme is me, I have a lot of work to do on a lot of fronts to make myself a better person. I can't wait to see what this next year will bring.

Wishing everyone a Happy New Year may 2012 bring forth new hope. I hope that 2012 is filled with lots of love, laughter, prosperity, family, friends, health and happiness.

Christmas day

Christmas morning Monkey was so excited because the Tooth Fairy came and gave her money and Santa had come that she bound into our room at 6:30. Rock got up with her and started prepping breakfast by 7:30 all the little ones were up and impatiently waiting to open presents from Santa.

Rock got a roasting pan, I got art supplies, both girls got play dough sets, Monkey got the Barbie Princess Charm School doll house, Muffin got some Barbies from Princess Charm School and Tutu got a Little People train track and some Chuck the Talking truck cars.

After that round of presents Rock made us breakfast, he friend up some bacon and made a Puffy Oven Pancake from Aesthetic Nest (yes she provided us lots of food recipes this Christmas). My mom use to make something similar growing up, we called it Dutch Puff and it was super yummy. My mom and I really enjoyed the breakfast.

After breakfast we opened up yet more presents. We opened our stockings from Santa and presents from each other and my parents.

It was a quiet Christmas, not like ones we've know in the past where we are surrounded by chaos, family, laughter and love. This year it was just us and my parents. It was nice to have a quiet Christmas but we obviously don't know how to cook a Holiday meal for only of us because we had a ham, a 17lbs turkey, mashed potato casserole, green beans mozzarella, glazed carrots, Brussels sprouts (a new side dish to our rotation), gravy, stuffing, and buns. We have been eating left overs all week, plus all the leftovers from Christmas Eve. The only complaint I got from the girls was there wasn't enough ham so for New Year's Day I will be cooking another one.

Despite budgets and such everyone got spoiled, the girls got digital cameras (that I picked up on clearance when we were at Target in September), art kits, some money, Tutu got a whole bunch of clothes, and a Cars racing set and a remote control car. Rock got money because there are some retreats he wants to attend next year. I got mostly money (that I already spent some on Boxing Day stocking up on art supplies, yarn and storage at Micheal's), my dad got me a few things from Forever 21 (I found it when we where downtown a few weeks ago) and my mom got me a set of crochet hooks.

I hope that everyone had a good Christmas and Santa was good to everyone. We are planning for a quiet New Year's as well. My cousin might come by and we will just hang out.

Miss you Mom

Today is a special day in my life. A year ago today the world lost an amazing woman, a woman who was selfless, kind, caring, a beautiful soul. A year ago today my MIL passed away while I was in the next room nursing Tutu just after 4am. I had been up with her all night changing the dressings on her wound every hour or so because it was leaking so badly. After suffering with the tumor for over 3 years, taking care of my step-FIL before he passed away, after spending 4 months in the hospital and 5 months at home she left her earthly body and went home to be with God and all her family that went before her. She no longer had to suffer as she had been for a long time. She was so strong but the cancer was stronger then her. She was more then just a MIL to me, she was a second mom.

This is Rock's favorite picture of his mom because it shows so much of her fun personality.

I share more about MIL here when we celebrated her life at the cottage this summer.

Mom I love you so much, and miss you like crazy. Christmas wasn't Christmas without you, no one to decorate with, sings carols with, bake with, with the same enthusiasm you did. I hope you are resting finally and enjoying your eternal life.

On Boxing day I made a quick run to Michael's to spend some Christmas money and spent the day in comfy clothes so no pictures from then. Yesterday we went to visit Rock's extended family and this is what I wore.

The necklace that I'm wearing there is one I never take off. It was my MIL and she bequeathed it to me. She wanted a journey necklace for the longest time. FIL promised to get it for her for their 20th wedding anniversary. He got really sick a few months before that milestone and passed away the day after their anniversary. She never got her necklace but her boss being the great man he is (they had been working together for 12 years) bought it for her on her birthday last year. She got her necklace she wanted for the longest time. I wear it everyday to remind me of her, to keep her strength with me, her wisdom and guidance.

I'm sorry this wasn't such a happy post, but this whole season I just wasn't feeling it. I hope my MIL is watching down on me and proud of what I have accomplished, proud of what our family has accomplished and proud of what her son has accomplished because Rock has made so many life altering changes in the last year.

Be good to all those around you, love them and let them know because you don't know how much time you have with them.

Christmas Eve

I hope that everyone had a wonderful Christmas. We had a good Christmas but a quiet one. It was not like Christmases of past where there was lots of people, lots of gifts and lots of laughter and fun. This was our first Christmas without my MIL. She was greatly missed by all of us.

Thursday Monkey's school had a little Christmas concert.

After they sang we were invited to the classroom to help the kids decorate gingerbread men.

Christmas Eve is the big night for us. In Polish tradition we have a big family meal. We don't eat meat Christmas Eve so our protein is fish. Usually we do a traditional 13 dishes, one to represent each month of the following year and one to represent the year. If you want good luck in the following year you need to eat a little bit from each of the dishes.

This year I wasn't really into Christmas, I only did partial decorating and we didn't do all 1 dishes. For dinner we had 2 kinds of fish, halibut and red snapper, breaded and fried, sauerkraut and potato and cheese pierogies, picked herring, this potato and vegetable salad my mom makes, assorted pickled veggies, and borscht (beet soup) with mushroom dumplings. Rock doesn't eat fish so he and my cousin's fiance ordered and ate panzarottis. They also ate meat since it's not their tradition. For dessert Rock made this awesome Cranberry Pudding. I got the recipe from Aesthetic Nest.

After dinner we did presents. As a child we always did presents Christmas Eve, now we separate presents into blocks to honor everyone's Christmas traditions. We exchange presents with my cousin and her family, some of my parents gifts and Rock and I give the kids pj's every year so they look cute Christmas morning opening presents. Christmas morning we do presents from Santa and after breakfast we open the rest. It also allows for the kids to enjoy their gifts and not get overwhelmed with all the stuff at once.

And this is what our house looked like after Santa visited. We had not 1 but 2 special people visiting. The Tooth Fairy also made a visit. On Wednesday Monkey lost her tooth but she saved it until Christmas Eve to give to the Tooth Fairy because she wanted to see if the 2 would meet. She wrote them both notes asking if they met each other and had check boxes for them to fill out. It was cute.

The other night I came home and saw Tutu playing in the living room with the salad spinner. What kind of a blogging mommy would I be if I didn't take a picture.

As soon as he saw the came he got up and said "No", ran over to the tree, posed and told me "now". After I took that picture he said "Again". No, I haven't taught my kids what to do in front of a camera. Once Muffin saw what was going on she needed to get in on the photography action.

What I Wore Wednesday - Holiday Activities

Another week has gone by and we are that much closer to Christmas and I have yet to find my Holiday spirit. All my shopping is done but I still have presents to wrap and a few more to finish making (nothing like cutting it close). After Christmas I will share what I made since I don't want to spoil the surprise for the recipients.

Last Wednesday we had our team Kris Kringle at work. I've worn all the pieces of the outfit to work before but never together. I got so many compliments that day. I kinda feel the outfit has a vintage pin-up girl vibe, maybe it's just the pose.

The kids decided tonight they were gonna wear each other's pj's. Tutu is wearing Monkey's night gown (ok he had no say in this process), Monkey is wearing Muffin's and Muffin is wearing Tutu's. They are just too cute.

Holiday Windows

Last weekend we were suppose to go out and visit the Christmas windows downtown at the Bay. Rock and I have been doing this for 15 years and he way before that with his family. We weren't able to go last weekend since everyone got sick but this weekend we bundled up and went on Saturday (we should have gone Sunday since it was warmer).

There was a lot of complaints about the cold since it was early in the morning, so we quickly looked at the windows.

Then w went into the Eaton Centre, took a few pictures by the 3 story Swarowski Christmas Tree and had some breakfast before we continued on with our adventures.

And then after that we went to the Distillery District and visit the Christmas market. Tutu feel asleep in the car and transferred into the stroller sleeping.

The girls were a bit cold after walking around for a bit so we warmed up by the fire. Tutu napped by the fire.

And we saw a reindeer.

And then we all rode the Merry Go Round

After the ride we notice we lost Tutu's new boot somewhere, I did a quick run around but we don't know when and where it was lost and I had no luck finding it so lost boot. And yesterday when I went to Walmart I forgot to buy a replacement. Thankfully there is no snow yet. :)

We decided to check out a little bit more before heading home from an adventure packed morning.

After being sick last week, it was nice to get out of the house and enjoy some activity as a family. We had fun even if it was freezing cold out.

Not feeling the Holidays

Well I haven't posted in almost a week. We have been sick over here. When Rock took the girls to the doctor on Friday they thought that they might have pneumonia, after an x-ray we were told thankfully it's just a virus but it knocked all of us out for the weekend and then some. We are all still trying to get over it.

Well due to all this I didn't get any photos this week of my outfits except for a bad one of yesterday's outfit.

The holidays are fast approaching and I am not feeling it. Christmas is my favorite time of year but this being the first Christmas without my MIL is sucking. Her and I would sing carols together while we put up the tree, every year we picked a new colour theme and would try and get away with buying new decorations. We were only able to get away with that every few years. I pulled out the decorations and put part of them up so the kids could have that Holiday feeling.

We also did some baking. MIL loved to baked and she always baked so much for everyone. Over Christmas everyone got their favorite cookies baked to enjoy and also a big batch to take home. The girls loved to bake with her. This year my mom baked sugar cookies with the girls. Tutu helped too with the sprinkles.

Normally I am on the ball and get my Christmas cards done and out end of November, I only got them out this weekend and I haven't even taken a picture of them yet to share with you. And this weekend was also when we got our Christmas lights up.

You would think with me being crafty I would be all over this but I'm not. My Holiday Pinterest board has so may cute ideas I would love to try out but I just don't have the motivation to do it. I have made a few presents for friends and such but no where near what I normally make.

I guess I also feel bad because the kids aren't getting as much under the tree. I *know* they don't need more stuff but it's nice to see them excited and watch their faces light up with joy. I know they will this year, the gifts they are getting have all had a lot of thought put in them.

Also last week Monkey turned 7. I made her a yummy chocolate raspberry cake with whip cream and a vanilla one too. They aren't very pretty but it was yummy.

Last week I shared my favorite photos of Monkey from the last seven years here. And here I remember my birthing day and how I became a mother. And then on Friday I shared my thoughts on nursing here.

I feel a bit like Scrooge, I guess with the anniversary of MIL's death approaching just after the Holidays and it's our first Christmas without her that I'm feeling this way. I know it's normal but I don't like it; I wish I could snap out of it. Maybe next will be better.

Thoughts on Nursing

7 years ago yesterday I entered into motherhood, because Monkey was in NICU I didn't get to nurse her until until the next day.

My first time nursing ever

My first time nursing was stressful, the nurses were telling me it was taking too long, telling me my latch wasn't correct but not correcting it. They told me I needed to supplement with formula because it was taking too long for her to nurse and her sugars would drop and I wouldn't be able to take her home. I did give in and supplement.

For the last 7 years I have been nursing at least one child. I have breastfed through 2 pregnancies and 1 miscarriage. I have extended nursed Monkey until she was 4. I tandem nursed Monkey and Muffin for 10 months. I am still extended nursing Muffin and Tutu and tandem nursed the 2 of them for 20 months and counting.

I nurse on demand, to me breastfeeding cures all, hungry, tired, cranky, upset, bored all solved by breastfeeding. I co-sleep so that it's easier to nurse through the night and I don't have to get up. Seriously I think this is a lazy mom's secret to success.

This picture of me tandem nursing the girls cause some controversy a few weeks ago on my facebook page. Almost 4 years after this picture was posted.

Below are my rants on the subject of being told I was brave to post these pictures on facebook. The person who made the comment sent me a private message clarify it was the amount of skin showing that was brave as facebook is such a public forum and not the act of nursing. To me showing this much skin or more to help make the act of nursing normal is acceptable. I know not everyone is comfortable with it but making the act seem normal helps other mothers in the future. I never have shied away from nursing in public with little ones. I don't do extended nursing in public because I don't want to educate others when I am out with my kids but I should if I feel so strongly about the subject. I guess the next time Muffin asks to nurse I will let her. If I talk the talk I should walk the walk.

Facebook Rants

I am very passionate about breastfeeding, I have been doing it for almost 7 years non-stop. I have tandem nursed twice (still doing it the second time around), I have nursed through pregnancy and miscarriage. I do not go around flaunting my breasts in public (well there was 1 time in college but only my friends saw ;)), but I do think that breastfeeding should be viewed as a normal act. I don't think it's brave for me to post a picture of me nursing. Breasts were meant to feed our children. It doesn't make me a hippy because I do extended nursing, or tandem nursing. It makes me normal. How do you think children got fed before formula was invented? It was breastfeeding. If someone wasn't able to there was wet nurses but it was still coming from a breast. Everyone has a right to choose to feed their child but breast is best. I will not judge you for how you feed your child; I do not walk in your shoes. I am proud of the fact that I am able to to do this for my children. I MAKE MILK WHAT'S YOUR SUPERPOWER?

Also we should be supporting one another as mothers and parents. There isn't enough breastfeeding support out there. I am blessed with many wonderful mamas who are knowledgeable about the subject, others aren't so lucky.

thanks guys, my whole thing is why is it brave to post a breastfeeding picture. I am not breaking ground with this. People show more boob on a regular basis then I do in the picture. Maybe if we thought of breastfeeding as a normal act then it wouldn't be considered brave.

Also we should be supporting one another as mothers and parents. There isn't enough breastfeeding support out there. I am blessed with many wonderful mamas who are knowledgeable about the subject, others aren't so lucky.

thanks guys, my whole thing is why is it brave to post a breastfeeding picture. I am not breaking ground with this. People show more boob on a regular basis then I do in the picture. Maybe if we thought of breastfeeding as a normal act then it wouldn't be considered brave.

You probably know more about me now and have see more of me then you would have thought but it's all for a good cause.
